The Droilet™ Chronicles: Pioneering a New Sustainable Toilet

In 2012, an idea sparked in the mind of David Mast, and with the hands-on expertise of his brother-in-law Toney, they embarked on a mission to revolutionize the world of waste management. Their journey began with the creation of a composting toilet paired with an above-ground septic box, a venture that  gained the stamp of approval from the local building and sanitation inspector. This nod of validation ignited a spark of curiosity and innovation that would change the game.

Unsatisfied and disappointed with the limitations of traditional composting toilets, David's quest for improvement became an obsession. He delved headfirst into the world of research and development, determined to push the boundaries of sanitation solutions.

Their original composting toilet with the above-ground septic box evolved into what they fondly referred to as the "field model," a testbed for David's groundbreaking ideas and concepts. After countless trials and tribulations, a breakthrough moment arrived when they achieved a remarkable "heat generating state," producing a substance that could only be described as "Fluff." It was a monumental leap from the initial "intolerable" state. Yet challenges still lay ahead.

Identifying five major obstacles on their path to success, the duo faced a daunting journey. Excessive Moisture, Heat Efficiency, Oxygen Demand, Clumping, and Bad Odor became their adversaries. Each challenge demanded ingenious solutions that eventually lead to a, game changing biophilic, reinvented toilet.

Undeterred, David dedicated a grueling five years of his life to the cause, producing and refining three prototypes through relentless testing and improvement. This is when David’s Brother, Larry entered the journey. With Larry’s broad scientific knowledge and technical writing experience, the many years of R&D documentation transformed into words with definitions. The “fluff” was identified as Biosynthate. And the “field model became known as a Biophilic Toilet. In 2017, with the aid of Larry’s editing skills, a patent application was sent forth. This marked a pivotal moment in their quest.

The project then entered a transformative product development phase, a three-year odyssey filled with rigorous testing and continual enhancement. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, their vision finally took shape. In 2022, they proudly introduced the world to the Droilet™, a triumphant achievement and groundbreaking stand-alone Biophilic Non-Sewered Toilet.

From humble beginnings to groundbreaking innovation, this story of perseverance, dedication, and unwavering passion serves as a testament to what can be achieved when a bold idea takes root and refuses to let go. The Droilet™ stands today as a symbol of human ingenuity and the unwavering pursuit of a better, more sustainable world.
